Research and development
Queensland hosts a number of leading research and development (RD) organisations in the rail sector - the Rail Cooperative Research Centre, the Centre for Railway Engineering and the Centre for Integrated Engineering Asset Management. This focus on R&D is developing new product opportunities such as the electronically controlled pneumatic braking system for heavier freight trains and improved approaches utilising new materials through to optimising maintenance, driving and scheduling.
- Existing R&D capabilities that exist in Queensland.
- Proven outcomes and deliverables to industry from participation in R&D.
- Capacity to attract additional investment in R&D to build on this strong base.
- All aspects of rolling stock and locomotive performance.
- Track/wheel interface and track performance research - identifying factors contributing to wear on rolling stock and track.
- Improved efficiency of systems and subsystems used in rolling stock to manage increased performance demands - passenger, freight and heavy haulage.
- Rolling stock testing facilities.
- R&D into training and education requirements.
- R&D on integrated asset management systems - delivering significant system performance improvements.
- R&D in railway engineering.
