Queensland has strong training and education capabilities provide the basis for developing a strong hub of railway transport industry capabilities.

• Presence of the Rail CRC, Centre for Railway Engineering, CRC for Integrated Asset Management, universities and QR's training and education resources in Queensland.
• Strong acceptance and implementation of the Australian Qualification Framework in Queensland - positions the state to be able to build on this vocational education and training (VET) capability.
• Recognition that skills, education and training are a vital capability for growth of the industry.
• Training and skills development for drivers and other operational staff in the main rail sector and for cane rail networks.
• Training and education programs covering vocational education and training and university qualifications.
• Specialist rail industry short courses developed to meet the needs of new entrants to the industry and existing staff in the rail industry.
