Cairns Bus Station 36 Construction Far North
Cairns Transit Network: The Queensland Government has commenced planning for a new transit network for Cairns. This planning includes building a network to deliver dedicated public transport spines that will connect the length and breadth of Cairns. A key part of the future Cairns Transit Network would be the redevelopment of the existing Lake Street transit mall into a modern and efficient Cairns City Station. Caloundra to Maroochydore Quality Bus Corridor and Public Transport Stations (CoastConnent): Consultation is in progress on concept design for new bus/transit and cycle lanes, upgrading major bus stations and stops, and giving buses priority at key intersections construction from 2011 on new bus/transit and cycle lanes, upgrading major bus stations and stops, and giving buses priority at key intersections. Cross River Rail Project Cross River Rail is a proposed new 18 kilometre north-south rail line in Brisbane's inner city, including: 8,200 EIS public consultation 30 August 2011 to 21 October 2011 SE Queensland
  • 10 kilometre underground tunnels from Yeerongpilly to Victoria Park
  • four new underground train stations – Boggo Road, Gabba, Albert Street and Roma Street
  • two new surface stations – Yeerongpilly and Ekka
  • two upgraded stations – Rocklea and Moorooka.

Gold Coast Rapid Transit System: Early construction works have begun on Stage One of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit system, which is the priority route from Griffith University (Parklands Drive, Southport) to Broadbeach. This 13 kilometre light rail corridor will service the new Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University, Southport medical precinct and the fast growing commercial, retail and recreational centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. There are 16 light rail stations planned for Stage One, with high-quality bus interchanges planned for Southport and Broadbeach. Passenger services are scheduled to start in 2014. Northern Busway: Extending the Northern Busway from theWindsor to Kedron due for completion 2012. The Northern Busway from Windsor to Kedron is being delivered with the Airport Link* project, and is managed by the Department of Infrastructure and Planning* and City North Infrastructure*. This project stage will build a new three kilometre busway, as well as new busway stations at Lutwyche and Kedron. Under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) BrisConnections will finance, design, construct, commission, operate and maintain Airport Link for a period of 45 years. BrisConnections will also will also design and build the Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and the Airport Roundabout Upgrade, before handing it back to the State. 734.7 Construction SE Queensland
The combined projects total $4.8 billion in design and construction costs. BrisConnections has contracted Thiess John Holland, a joint venture between Thiess Pty Ltd and John Holland Group, to undertake the design and construction of Airport Link, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade. Roma Airport upgrade: The State Government and energy company Santos both committed to the project today, announcing contributions of $4.7 million and $2.5 million respectively. Passenger terminal concept design completed September 2010, The project scope includes: 11 Design South West
  • A $1.75 million upgrade of the passenger terminal. Construction of the new A.T. Berry Terminal will include: new check in counters, larger departure and arrival lounge, new kiosk area, baggage conveyor system for check-in only, new toilet facilities, new air conditioning system, new rental car kiosks
  • Lengthening, widening and strengthening of the existing runway to allow larger aircraft to land
  • Construction of a 250 space secure car park with lighting
  • Widening of the existing taxiway and apron to accommodate larger aircraft
     
Contract works are expected to be completed by December 2011.

South East Busway Extension: Eight Mile Plains to Springwood: The Queensland Government has approved the Concept Design Study and preferred alignment for the South East Busway between Rochedale and Springwood. Springfield Transport Corridor Stage 1: Stage 1 of the project involves: 800 Construction SE Queensland
  • building a passenger railway line to Richlands
  • constructing a railway station at Richlands, north of Progress Road
  • duplicating the Centenary Highwayfrom two to four lanes north of the Logan Motorway interchange.
     
Stage 1 is due for completion in 2011.      
Stage 2: Horizon Alliance - extend rail line from Richlands to Springfield. The project is scheduled for delivery in 2013 and involves extending the rail line 10 kilometres from Richlands to a new station at Springfield, opposite Orion Shopping Centre. 646 Construction SE Queensland
