$137.3 million bonus to North Queensland pipeline project: Energy supply in Queensland has been bolstered by a dramatic growth in the production of coal seam gas. The combination of overseas experience and local engineering has moved the Queensland coal seam gas industry from questionable to quintessential in a few years. Several coal seam gas developments are either currently producing commercial gas supply or under advanced development. The bonus in this success story is the participation of local engineering in the extraction though to delivery.
As part of its commitment to local content, the project supported both the Queensland Government's Local Industry Policy and the Federal Government's Enhanced Project By-Law Scheme (EPBS). ICN Queensland assisted the project team in the development and implementation of these policies, ensuring that the project gained the maximum commercial benefit from the policy compliance.
The project incorporated strategies to increase local content with a special focus on regional supplier opportunities through an industry participation plan. Enertrade involved ICN Queensland to pursue wherever possible, the use of local goods and services. 88% by value were awarded to Queensland and Australian suppliers with $47 million of that going to regional Queensland companies such as Schmider engineering from Mt Isa and Rockhampton Switchboards. |

New winch makes cable recovery a cinch: Replacing hazardous overhead cable conductors, whereby the 3 bare copper wires conducting electricity are replaced with one solid ABC cable or replacing old overhead copper with new aluminium cable, is part of the activities carried out by ENERGEX. To perform these tasks, ENERGEX deploys manually operated cable recovery winch trucks to retrieve and replace the cables. Due to the escalation of work and new wire technology, ENERGEX identified the need to manufacture and implement a new winch system that allowed for enhanced control, better utility and greater safety for the operator, as the former design had a slow three-wire recovery time and did not give the operator a lot of feedback or control. |
