Queensland manufacturing capacity by region - December Quarter 2009-10

The Industry Capability Network (Queensland) is funded by the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation to report quarterly on key Queensland suppliers' capacity to assist in providing more factual information to project owners and procurement managers. The latest survey shows there is expanding free capacity to meet your project needs and within striking distance of your project site.

The latest assessment was carried out in December 2009/January 2010 and is usually valid for about three months. For the December Quarter 2009, the capacity of 110+ Queensland (Large and SME) companies was assessed. These companies are indicative of a significant proportion of Queensland’s fabrication capacity.

The results are in the chart attached. This ‘snapshot’ revealed that across the State the light, medium and heavy fabrication and precision engineering companies surveyed are operating at 64% ulitisation with 36% spare fabrication capacity. As in the previous quarter this survey has shown no significant change at a State level, however there were significant changes within the regions. The Mackay(↑11%), Fitzroy (↑29%) and Darling Downs (↑9%) experienced increases in plant utilization. However the State figure remained largely unchanged as Plant Utilization in the South East Region where the bulk of the State’s capacity resides only increased by 2%.
