Gold Coast Light Rail

Planes trains and buses - connecting the city

The Light Rail system will form the central spine of the transport corridor but to succeed it has to be able to interconnect with other transport modes and thus serve all the needs of residents, tourists and commuters.

Buses are ideal suburban feeders, serving a radius of streets and focussing on delivering passengers to each light rail stop. These buses can be small 12-20 seat vehicles, able to provide a more frequent service and will be less intrusive in the neighbourhood.

The Gold Coast has an inland rail corridor which is the major public transport link with Brisbane. The northern end of the Light Rail will commence at Helensvale station where you will be able to walk straight off the train and on to a waiting light rail vehicle to take you on down the coast. Eventually there could be light rail links to all stations along the main railway corridor. Most of the Coast's hotels and motels are within close proximity to the light rail corridor and a link to the airport would provide an irrestible and economical mode of transport to convey air travellers to their accommodation. Expensive taxi fares and bus transfers would become a thing of the past.

The smarter traveller would never use his or her car to visit a Gold Coast attraction if there was Light Rail service traversing the length of the City every ten minutes.
